Help us help musicians globally – Lockdown Get Down

We received this amazing message from The Cat Empire – and wanted to spread the word!

Our industry is under serious threat as gatherings in public spaces are not allowed to continue.

We are reading about the impact to the entertainment industry, but not about the creators; the musicians, songwriters, sculptors, photographers… and yet, we desperately need their beauty reflected in the world so we can find our way through the dark times.

We are telling you this not to elicit sympathy, but to draw your attention to musicians during these times, as there is one way you can play a role in helping the global music community without spending more money than you do, and without even leaving your homes.

Our request is simple:

Acknowledging the fear and uncertainty everyone is experiencing right now, we know we need to look after each other, get creative, integrate some inspired new ways to live more lightly on the planet and try to make the best of this situation by having a Lockdown Get Down at home. With the likelihood that many if not all of us are going to be at home with our laptops, canned food, kids, pets and other loved ones, let music help us through our days from morning until night.

Play music as you grapple with what to do next, while you cook, while your kids take a bath, on your computer while you work at the kitchen table, let your kids make their own #lockdowngetdown playlists to pump in their bedrooms, and keep the music streaming as you drift off to sleep…

1. Play your favourite artists non-stop on your preferred streaming service.
2. Consider moving to a paid streaming subscription if that is manageable for you.
3. Create a playlist; name it Lockdown Get Down and share it with your friends.
4. Post your Lockdown Get Down photos and videos with hashtags #lockdowngetdown and #thecatempire so we can see you all rocking out at home.

We promise it will make you feel better too. Music is scientifically seen to decreases levels of the hormone cortisol in your body, counteracting the effects of chronic stress. We all need a good dose of that right now.

In every family, there will be someone we need to protect, and we see you as part of our bigger family, so please let us know if you need help. There are so many amazing people in our Empire community and this is the part where we all come together to look after each other, so let’s work out the best ways to do that over the coming months.

Thank you for helping us, and for helping musicians all over the world by simply listening to more music.

Best wishes from The Cat Empire
