Bruce Retief wins 2014 SAFTA Award

CAPE TOWN BORN South African composer, producer and arranger Bruce Retief walked away with the SAFTA (South African Film and Television Award) for ‘Best Soundtrack Composition in a Feature Film’ for the movie Khumba at the 8th annual SAFTA awards held on Saturday 5 April, 2014 at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg.

Khumba is a 2013 3D South African computer-animated adventure comedy produced locally by Triggerfish Animation Studios and features a star-studded cast including Lawrence Fishburne and Liam Neeson. The film opened at #1 at the box office in South Africa in 2013 and continues to roll out in the rest of the world. The main theme song from the Khumba movie is the “The Real Me” composed by Bruce Retief and performed by Loyiso Bala.

Bruce found his niche in composing, arranging and producing for various high-end orchestral projects and has composed music for documentaries for Discovery Channel, National Geographic and also composed the score for ADVENTURES IN ZAMBEZIA, a 3D animated movie.

For the Zambezia soundtrack Bruce received an ‘Annie Award Nomination’ for ‘Best Score in an Animated Feature’, as well as a SAFTA (South African Film and Television Award) Nomination.

Bruce’s repertoire is represented by Gallo Music Publishers, who are extremely proud of his achievements at the local SAFTA awards.
